The Texas Central Line was an extension to the original Jersey Line which extended the route three hundred fifty miles or so south to D’Hanis, Texas. This route allowed the shipment of kolaches and sausages north in addition to the bread crumbs already being shipped south on the original Jersey Line.
The Texas Central was nickname the “TexMex Express” for the food prevalent along the route. It was also considered being named the BBQ Trail.
The Texas Central has two different routes – one main line through Waco and Austin and a more scenic route through the Texas Hill Country. The Hill Country Line was known for less traffic but more speed enforcement. The two lines converge in San Antonio for the final run to D’Hanis.
The Texas Central was also extended to provide service to Houston and Galveston on the Coastal Line.
